Running, writing poetry, history podcasts and playing chess
Mr. Hagen began his teaching career at Learning Skills Academy, a small private day school for students with dyslexia that he himself attended during middle school. He subsequently spent 17 years on the mathematics faculty at The Canterbury School in Milford, Connecticut, teaching Geometry, Algebra, Pre-Calculus and Calculus I, and leading a Calculus II evening seminar for interested students. Mr. Hagen also coached cross country, basketball, and baseball. He completed his master’s degree in pure mathematics at the University of New Hampshire in 2015.
In his free time, Mr. Hagen pursues running and writing poetry. He also enjoys listening to history podcasts and playing a good game of chess. A longtime basketball fan, Mr. Hagen follows the Celtics religiously. He loves spending time with his family on both coasts, especially his nephew and four nieces.
Mr. Hagen is deeply committed to his student’s exploration of mathematics. He sees the connection between student and teacher as a partnership, based on trust and mutual growth, and is excited to pursue his passion for teaching at St. Paul’s.
